Monthly Summaries

September 2017. So many things have happened. Somehow summer has only just ended, autumn is in full swing, but you already hear retailers preparing for Christmas. If you are just as keen on Christmas as those retailers and have thought about going out there to do your children's toys shopping, be aware, Toy's R Us may no longer be. Then again, there are many other leisure activities besides shopping for toys.

August, the last month of the summer period. Every August I remember those wonderful weeks during my childhood when spending time with my family in the country side. A quiet month, lots of sun, swimming, and nothing in this world to worry about. A quiet and relaxing month and in that vein, let's check out some news stories that are a perfect read for these final long days of sunshine, a hot breeze, and moments in Beergardens and on a beach.

The warm month of July. We spent half of the month traveling and half of the time in Paris. It’s been a wonderful month. It’s summer, people seem so much happier and content with life, BBQs outside, and, if you turn off the news, life is simply awesome. And on that awesomeness note, I’d like to start Captain Finance’s July Summary of some of the most interesting events in July 2017.

Summer is finally here. Chirping birds are waking sleeping heads in the morning, the sun shines its rays through the window and rings in the day. I love this time of the year. It's the beginning of long, warm, sunny days, spending time outside, playing sports, barbecuing, and enjoying the sunset with a cold drink and in good company.

What a beautiful month May has been. I spent a wonderful holiday with friends in Greece, enjoyed the great Greek hospitality, visited the Acropolis, ate some of the best food and drank some real gems of Meditarrean brewing and distilling. All in all an unforgettable holiday with wonderful friends. This is also the reason why May's Summary is a bit delayed.

The month of April and its many events. One of the most intense elections finished with Emmanuel Macron as the first round winner boosting global stock markets. Electric cars are now worth more than ever with Tesla's market capitalization higher than that of its bigger competitor Ford - almost a David versus Goliath scenario with David again coming out on top; at least from an investor's viewpoint.

March 2017, what a month it has been. Long and eventful. March 2017 was the month the United Kingdom triggered Article 50 and decided to leave the 44-year old partnership with the rest of the European Union and go it on its own. It has also been the month that led to major car manufacturers to go forward together, Peugeot acquired Opel from General Motors, while the London Stock Exchange and Deutsche Börse were not allow to merge.

February 2017. A short, yet interesting month. There is still much going on across the political spectrum both in the USA and in Europe. An exhausting month for many, thus let's look at some more fun news. If you have invested in Bitcoins, you're probably enjoying some great times with Bitcoins hitting historical highs.

The start of the year 2017. Happy New Year to everyone. May this year be another year full of successes, awesomeness, happiness, health, and wonderful experiences. The month of January has proved to be the month of gender pay studies indicating that the young experience a difference in pay, while millennials are the lucky ones where women earn almost as much as their male counterparts. But not only are women catching up in the workplace, they are also becoming increasingly important clients for big wealth management firms.

The last month of the year. December 2016 is coming to an end and with it an eventful 2016. From Brexit to Donald Trump, from historic OPEC deals to interest rate hikes. December doesn't fall short of interesting, intriguing, and fun news. Warren Buffett's love for Coca Cola (amongst other things) in a new documentary, Millennials's take on car ownership, football players who earn more in a week than the average person in ten years, millennials start ups.
